What are the Three Principles?
The Principles behind Innate Health give a person a solid grounding from which to live their lives. Just like the principle of gravity physically grounds us, so too the Principles of Mind, Consciousness and Thought ground us psychologically. When people are grounded, they have both feet firmly on the ground. They may sway from side to side, but they feel a sense of security. They are anchored and routed in what is true. They have good balance and perspective. They can see everything around them with clarity, and make sound, responsive decisions.
Some would call this being normal or down to earth. We think that to be normal is to be exceptional. We are designed to be wise, creative, productive, understanding and loving.
The formless energy, or intelligence, behind life
The form this energy takes giving us a moment-to-moment experience of life
The awareness that brings our thinking to life through our senses
Small children are both incredible and credible examples of the Innate Health and purity of Mind that the Principles point to.
Children embody this human capacity for resiliency and mental health. They have inbuilt common sense that guides them to learn the skills they need to survive and thrive. For example, they independently learn to walk, talk and use their hands. They are spontaneously drawing from the intelligence of Mind. Their rate of progressive learning is therefore extraordinary, yet taken for granted.
They get over their bad moods and irritability and seem to live in a state of flow that is energizing and full of well-being. This well-being encompasses and includes the full range of emotions and feelings that human beings are born into.
The innate, creative and intelligent source of all life is creating, sustaining and supporting nature, as well as our physiology. What we fail to realize is that it's also providing us with the power to create a mental life that is infinitely rich and appropriate for our moment-to-moment living.
We call it Mind. It is not the brain. The brain is biological. Mind is spiritual.
Yet, as we mature we seem to forget our psychological and spiritual roots. We feel as though life is happening to us rather than being created through us moment-to-moment, through the gift and source of one universal Mind.
Learning about the way Mind works will realign you with the logic, perspective and security that human beings feel when knowing that Mind is projecting your story of life onto the canvas you call reality.
Consciousness is the gift of awareness. It is a product of Mind that makes us aware that we are alive and thinking. We are born into a pool of infinite Consciousness. Consciousness gives us a sensory experience of our thinking. It is the screen onto which our Mind projects thoughts, making them feel real, valid and justified.
If we don't take Consciousness into account, it can create an illusion that makes us feel like victims of our circumstances or feelings. It’s what makes our thinking look so compelling. We are aware because we are conscious; every thought that appears in your mind will be brought to life through this gift of awareness.
Moment-to-moment, we experience our own subjective version of reality, created by energy that shows up in the form of thoughts, images, perceptions, feelings, opinions and sensations.
The implication of this is that, while it might feel as if we are merely reacting to a reality that is "out there", if we take a step back we will begin to see that this reality is in perfect alignment with the thoughts we are thinking at any given moment. In fact, the reality you are experiencing is a projection of your mind and nothing more.
Once you see the underlying nature of Thought, everything changes. That is because Thought is a transient, formless energy that has no power but the power you give it. If you think something is true, it will be true for you.
Understanding the Three Principles allows you to become less attached to your thoughts and more able to draw from the infinite flow, intelligence and creativity of Mind. You access the freedom to bypass your unhelpful thinking and touch a deeper wisdom and clarity that are products of the Mind.
"Mind, Consciousness and Thought are the Three Principles that enable us to acknowledge and respond to existence."
Sydney Banks, The Missing Link
Once you realize, for yourself, through your own personal insight, that life is created from the inside out, you instantly connect to your well-being and innate health.
You start to have your experiences without your experiences having you. You begin to see that your feelings are coming from Thought and Thought alone - NOT from other people or circumstances. This will bring you back to being present and connected to your common sense and wisdom.
